something bigger

This better be about something big

these days the enemy don't even have a flag

What's the country ever done for me?
Educated you, provided you with opportunities to find employment, offered you financial assistance if you can't, looked after you when you were sick, ensured you were clothed, housed and fed, protected rather than persecuted you and allowed you to choose your own government. Actually, you're one of the luckier citizens of this planet.

and am I going to understand the next bit?

This is my "I want some good news" face

Imagination is a powerful deceiver

Mick was a troubled man.
Most days he felt he was on the outside looking in.
Except for some days when he was definitely
on the inside looking out.

So he became Mia.
First just at home.
Then popping to the shop.
At night, so the neighbours wouldn't see.
Until, at last, he found his feet and Mia had full rein.

She was everything,
the works,
everything Mick wanted to be,
in one glorious day glo package.

Mick would never let his hair down,
Mia always wore ribbons and bows.

She was simply the life and soul, full of life and soul,
while Mick, well, Mick had a blue soul on a dark, dark road.

Mick had no friends, Mia had them all. At least once.

Unfortunately when Mick felt he had nothing,
and nothing left to lose, he left.

And when he left he still didn't want to be alone,
so, you know, he took Mia with him.

#1LOVE

Who said that?

Don't be silly, Toto
.

It's pleasant down that way, too.

That's funny. Wasn't he pointing the other way?

Of course, some people do go both ways.

Are you hinting my apples aren't what they ought to be?

What makes the flag on the mast to wave?

What makes the elephant charge his tusk in the misty mist, or the dusky dusk

if you were king, you wouldn't be afraid of anything

Flora Borsi - Siamese

This blog takes its name, and inspiration, from a picture by Hungarian photographer & artist Flora Borsi.  It was an adaptation of Kees van Dongen's 1919 painting The Corn Poppy. Scroll back to entry number one and you'll find the following comment:
My favourite piece of art is . . . no . . .
My favourite piece of visual art is . . . no . . .
My current favourite piece of visual art is The Corn Poppy by Kees van Dongen . . . no . . .
My current favourite piece of visual art is Flora Borsi's treatment of The Corn Poppy by Kees van Dongen from her series of photographs imagining Models of Abstract Paintings as real people.

What I liked about it was how she played with the idea of Art.  Kees van Dongen's painting is a classic.  Flora hijacked it and made it her own.

It was a great image, cleverly manipulated but she turned it into something new.  In the same way that after Hendrix re-invented All Along the Watchtower even Bob Dylan could only hear it that way.

Flora Borsi was still a teenager back then.

Siamese is her latest project

One of the great things about Flora is that even though she has created an incredible portfolio of work already, I feel the best is yet to come.

Thanks Flora
